Le Loop - supporting the William Wates Memorial Trust

Le Loop follows the official route of the Tour de France, each stage ridden one week ahead of the professionals and finishes 21 stages later in Paris

I will be riding all but the last 3 stages - 18 stages in all, including all but 2 of the Alps and Pyrenees stages.

I rode all 21 stages of this amazing event in 2019, and with fundraising from that and from the Reigate Circle of the Catenian Association when I was President in 2020-21, and this current fundraising, have raised more than £24,000 to date. This includes £1,600 donated by me personally.

On Friday 25th June 2025 around 100 riders will gather in Lille for the 'Grand Depart'. Some cycle a few days, some ride further. More will join us over the following 3 weeks of the tour.

Riders tackle one of a selection of "Loops" riding anything from 2 to all 21 stages of the Tour de France route. Every participant commits to raising a minimum amount for the William Wates Memorial Trust (WWMT). The fundraised money is entirely separate from the participation fee - donations do not pay for my Tour

All monies raised go directly to the William Wates Memorial Trust whose mission is to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence and fulfil their potential. This is achieved by giving grants to charities that engage young people through the medium of sports, arts and education.

It's been a tough couple of years for charities and particularly for young people. This is my chance to give something back and help support young people who aren't lucky enough to enjoy the advantages in life that most of us take for granted. I have personally visited 5 of the projects supported by the Trust and they are truly inspiring. The Trust has highly structured performance driven criteria for awarding grants and a unique approach which maximises the chance of success and organic growth of each project they support.

Le Loop is no small undertaking. Riding even ONE stage of the Tour de France route is going to hurt! Please reward my pain by giving generously.

Getting close

Wednesday 28th May
After many months and miles of training, it is just a few weeks to go before we head off to Lille: all the preparation has been done, now is the moment where hopefully it all pays off!

Thank you to my donors

Tuesday 10th Dec
In addition to the donations I have made myself, I would like to thank all the many and varied donors who have helped me get close to my personal sponsorship target, and an organisation I was president of for allowing me to choose WWMT as my presidential charity.

Start of 2025 training approaches

Tuesday 10th Dec
Early January will see the start of my training. I plan to follow pretty much exactly what I did in preparation for 2019 as that seemed to work ok, but there is the small matter of being 5 years older 😎
