Le Loop - supporting the William Wates Memorial Trust
On Friday 21st June 2024 I will be attempting to ride Le Loop (the full Tour de France route), my journey will start in Florence just one week ahead of the Pro’s, finishing some 21 days later in Nice (due to the Olympics in Paris). During this time, I will be climbing (by bike) the equivalent of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowden, Mount Blanc, Kilimanjaro, and Everest covering an approximate distance of 3500km – Not bad in 21 days!
Every participant commits to raising money for the William Wates Memorial Trust (WWMT). The fundraised money is entirely separate from the participation fee - donations do not pay for my Tour.
All monies raised go directly to the William Wates Memorial Trust whose mission is to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence and fulfil their potential. This is achieved by giving grants to charities that engage young people through the medium of sports, arts and education.
This is my chance to give something back and help support young people who aren't lucky enough to enjoy the advantages in life that most of us (myself included) have taken for granted.
Le Loop is no small undertaking, in the words of Bernard Hinault (5x tour winner), an amateur should think long & hard before attempting one of the tour’s stages, 2 would necessitate a visit to a doctor, 3 would require a psychiatrist – anymore and you should be checking that person has written a will!
Fun Fact! During the tour I will burn an estimated 185,000 calories the equivalent of 110 litres of golden syrup or 357 Kit Kats
Please reward my pain by giving generously and helping me make a difference.
Merci! 🚴⛰️🇫🇷
