Le Loop - supporting the William Wates Memorial Trust
With a few other Hurlingham Club cycling members I am riding three stages of the Tour de France for charity.
An amateur should think long and hard before attempting one of these stages, two would probably necessitate a visit to a Doctor, three would require a psychiatrist – any more and you should be checking that person has written a will.
All monies raised go directly to the William Wates Memorial Trust whose mission is to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence and fulfil their potential. This is achieved by giving grants to charities that engage young people through the medium of sports, arts and education. It is really important work and has had tremendous results in the last 25 years.
It is difficult for lesser known charities to raise money and this one really makes a difference. This is my chance to give something back and help support young people who aren't lucky enough to enjoy the advantages in life that most of us take for granted.

For any kind sponsor , I can send you a daily ‘live tracking’ link each day.
Every
participant commits to raising a minimum amount for the William Wates
Memorial Trust (WWMT). The funds raised are entirely separate from
the participation fee I have paid. Your donations do not pay for my Tour.
Le Loop is no small undertaking. Riding even ONE stage of the Tour de France route is going to hurt! Please reward my pain by giving generously.
Merci!
Some fun facts:
I will burn the equivalent number of calories as you’d find in 40 bottles of red wine!
In three days I will cycle the same distance as cycling three times around the M25 (but much hillier) or the equivalent of cycling the entire length of Ireland, but with lots more hills and hopefully lots less rain!
During my time cycling three stages of the Tour de France, my legs will go 171,000 times round the pedals. There are nine muscles involved in every rotation. That’s 1.5 million muscle actions to move me this many kilometres.
I will burn 27,000 calories, the equivalent to 48.5 bottles of champagne. It would take 237 hours to burn this many calories watching sport on television.
