Le Loop - supporting the William Wates Memorial Trust

Le Loop follows the official route of the Tour de France, one week ahead of the professionals and finishes 21 stages later in Nice (due to the Olympics in Paris).

On Friday 21st June 2024 around 100 riders will gather in Florence for the 'Grand Depart'. Some cycle a few days, some ride further. More will join us over the following 3 weeks of the tour.

Riders tackle one of a selection of "Loops" riding anything from 2 to all 21 stages of the Tour de France route. Every participant commits to raising a minimum amount for the William Wates Memorial Trust (WWMT). The fundraised money is entirely separate from the participation fee - donations do not pay for my Tour

All monies raised go directly to the William Wates Memorial Trust whose mission is to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence and fulfil their potential. This is achieved by giving grants to charities that engage young people through the medium of sports, arts and education.

It's been a tough couple of years for charities and particularly for young people. This is my chance to give something back and help support young people who aren't lucky enough to enjoy the advantages in life that most of us take for granted.

Le Loop is no small undertaking. Riding even ONE stage of the Tour de France route is going to hurt! Please reward my pain by giving generously.

Merci!

My Updates

200 km plus ride done ✔️ 👍

Monday 22nd Apr
So yes the title says it all, and after the months of solid training put together by coach Helen Bridgeman it felt ok 👌. Just need to repeat this 9 times in June. All donations spurring me on during every training session. Thank you so very much peeps.

Milestone reached #100

Sunday 14th Apr
Yes I have now done 100 training sessions since January 1 st, the majority have been bike based but also core and body conditioning. Don’t think I’ve ever been so consistent with training, done such a volume or back to back on the bike but happy to say it’s paying off … spring is here so out on The Beauty, Pearson Carbon bike that’s going to do Le Loop. It’s a great bike and will help me as much as any bike can to do this kind of event - and yes it get’s cleaned after every ride.

Training, training, training and more training

Thursday 11th Apr
Not so much to report since my last update apart from most importantly I have reached over £2000 fundraising and increased my target. Thank you so much everyone. And yes been training hard since Calpe nasty intense indoor bike sessions and doing longer outdoor rides and some Sat and Sunday rides. It’s all about training atm. One memorable 160 km Saturday ride with mates to support me. Hopefully shorts on from now. 🤞

Calpe Post 3

Thursday 7th Mar
Other things I learnt, keep a sense of humor, the legs will complain but warm up after 30 minutes or so, enjoy the scenery. The Pros make it all look easy (yes they were flying around there), this gang passed me on a 15 km climb. If it was easy it would not be a suitable challenge. Thank you for all your donations watch out for more blogs. Kc

Calpe Post 2

Thursday 7th Mar
What did I learn? The challenge I’ve set myself for June is huge, but I knew that 😂.  Improved my downhill skills, how to fuel for this event (eat, eat and eat), how to hydrate (stay hydrated), steady away on the climbs conserve your legs, the small cog is great especially at the start of the day, get your layers on at the top before you start your downhill - it’s chilly up there.  Gore top saved me.

February Calpe, Spain training week …. Feb 2024 post 1

Thursday 7th Mar
So off I went to join a mixed group of cyclists with different goals to cycle 7 days from Calpe run by Mellow Jersey (great company and ride leaders).  Weather now what was expected at all, windy, some sun but quite cold.  It is here I was introduced to grown up climbs, mega downhills, smooth roads, nice drivers and learnt so much.

Final Watt bike session for 8 days … yay, but still training

Friday 23rd Feb
Off to Clape, Spain tomorrow to do a weeks cycle training in the 🤞sunnier climes. Going to embrace the hills and every day out on the bike … let’s see how the legs hold up. Bye bye shed and avatar 😂

My home training set up …..

Friday 9th Feb
So training is now in full swing and the word is out about the challenge I’m undertaking for this great charity.  So sharing a picture of a place I have spent hours and will do even more in the coming months. (Excuse the mess)

And I’m off …. first 1/2 Le Loop 2024

Monday 4th Dec
Training has officially started this week …. And so has the fundraising for this fantastic Charity - to help young people stay out of trouble through sports, arts and education.

Check out this Utube link of one of the charities they support.  https://youtu.be/Z6gzqJ8R9q0?si=_pSHYl7XXxweEsE3

In a nutshell June 22nd 2024 I’ll be cycling the first 9 days of The Tour De France Route. Thats over 1500 km and an awful lot of climbing.
