My Updates
The Tour is done!
Sunday 19th Jul Over 3000kms and over 50,000 mtrs climbed. Much more to say but for now here is a pic and a reminder to keep giving. The initial target set is not the limit, it is the minimum!
The 'Honest Truth'!
Monday 13th Jul💥 Riding the Tour de France for Charity: The "Honest Truth"!
1. Beaten by the Heat, Not the Mountain
"On Stage 15, the Tour reminded me exactly why it is the hardest sporting event in the world. After 15 days of fighting gravity at 90 kg, the extreme 38°C (100°F) heat finally caught up with me in the valleys before the final climb up the Plateau de Solaison. My core temperature rose, my legs turned to stone, and I was stopped due to heat exhaustion at 144 km of the 188 km stage. At my weight, my body acts like a massive furnace, and in that humidity, there was simply nowhere for the heat to go. It was a tough pill to swallow, but safety and surviving to finish the rest of the Tour had to come first."
2. The Heavyweight Totals Are Still Real
"Even with missing that final climb, the physics of what my 53-year-old body has done over the last 15 days is wild. I have still ridden 1,555 miles (2,503 km) and climbed 112,800 vertical feet—that's lifting my 90 kg frame over Mount Everest almost four times since Barcelona. The tank is empty, but the heart is still fully in it."
3. Using the Rest Day to Rebuild
"Today is all about recovery and eating my body weight in French pastries. I am cleared to ride, the diesel engine is resetting, and I am 100% ready to roll out tomorrow for the final week all the way to Paris. The journey continues!"
The greatest cyclists in history have been brought to their knees by heat exhaustion. I have adapted, survived, and I am still standing on the rest day ready to finish the job. I will do my level best!
