Le Loop - supporting the William Wates Memorial Trust

Le Loop follows the official route of the Tour de France, one week ahead of the professionals and finishes 21 stages later in Nice.

On Friday 21st June 2024 around 100 riders will gather in Florence for the 'Grand Depart'. Some cycle a few days, some ride further.

Riders tackle one of a selection of "Loops" riding anything from 2 to all 21 stages of the Tour de France route. Every participant commits to raising a minimum amount for the William Wates Memorial Trust (WWMT). The fundraised money is entirely separate from the participation fee - donations do not pay for my Tour

All monies raised go directly to the William Wates Memorial Trust whose mission is to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence and fulfil their potential. This is achieved by giving grants to charities that engage young people through the medium of sports, arts and education.

It's been a tough couple of years for charities and particularly for young people. This is my chance to give something back and help support young people who aren't lucky enough to enjoy the advantages in life that most of us take for granted.

Le Loop is no small undertaking. Riding even ONE stage of the Tour de France route is going to hurt! Please reward my pain by giving generously.

Merci!

XO Bikes: Making a Tangible Difference!

Saturday 3rd Feb
Just before Christmas I had the chance to visit one of the charities that my 520km of cycling in the Pyrenees in July will support.

The team at XO Bikes provide ex-offenders with training and jobs as bike mechanics at their workshop and refurbished second hand bike store in Lewisham. Studies show that employment is the single most important factor in reducing reoffending rates, and yet 75% of businesses will not employ ex-offenders. What the XO bikes  team are doing is breaking this cycle of re-offending, and it was truly inspiring to see the difference they are making first hand.

If you are able to sponsor me and help XO bikes and other charities like them keep the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Three hard days in the Pyrenees!

Sunday 19th Nov
So I've taken the plunge and signed up for Stages 13, 14 and 15 of this year's Tour de France.
This is when The Tour hits the Pyrenees, and so some of the "highlights" include:
>520km of cycling
>10,000m of climbing
9 major cols...
...including the Peyresourde and the mighty Tourmalet

This will be by far the hardest thing I've ever done on (or off!) the bike, way further than I've cycled before, with some monumental climbs along the way.
Thanks in advance for your sponsorship and support - it will keep me going when my legs are telling me to stop!

Thank you to my Sponsors
