Le Loop - supporting the William Wates Memorial Trust
For the pros riding this year’s edition of Le Tour de France, it will be, as ever, a case of “pas de cadeaux”. For them, quite simply, there are "no gifts". They’ll battle it out for every second, every kilometre, each point, all in pursuit of ultimate glory on the Champs-Élysées.
For us riding Le Loop, whilst it’s not a race, there'll still be an absence of those cadeaux. Come June 28th we’ll be battling the same elements, the same geography, the emotions, the highs, the lows, the pain and no doubt the waves of exhaustion. It's a mirror image of the 2025 race-for-real, but one week before the professionals hit the road and as you might expect, slower. Not so fast maybe, but no less intensive. Over its 21 stages, across 3,200 km and four mountain ranges, there'll be no let-up. Relentless, all the way from the plains of Northern France to the Arc de Triomphe. A challenge, and then some.
Regarding those gifts, please, please remember that 100% of amounts donated goes directly to WWMT. Your sponsorship will push me on, kilometre-by-kilometre. It is our efforts together that allows the trust to continue its support of the amazing charities that it works with. Examples of the inspirational work they do can be found on the main WWMT pages. The trustees believe that if William was still alive today he'd be working to support those less fortunate than himself. It is those younger people who are troubled, struggling, disadvantaged, have taken the wrong turning onto the wrong road - they are the focus of the trust, in memory of Will’s life and values. Through mentorships, the arts, sport and education, they get the chance to encounter the more positive challenges in life, and to fulfil their own potential through the gift of hope.
