I'm taking on an epic cycling challenge in aid of William Wates Memorial Trust: Ride Le Loop....all 21 stages of the 2023 Tour de France Route

Every penny raised will go directly towards the William Wates Memorial Trust whose mission is to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence and fulfil their potential. This is achieved by giving grants to charities that engage young people through the medium of sports, arts and education.

Le Loop follows the official route of the Tour de France, one week ahead of the professionals and finishes 21 stages later in Paris, some 3,400kms later on Sunday 16th July.

On Saturday 24th June 2023 around 100 riders will gather in Bilbao for the 'Grand Depart'. Some cycle a few days, some ride further. More will join us over the following 3 weeks of the tour.

It's been a tough couple of years for charities and particularly for young people. This is my chance to give something back and help support young people who aren't lucky enough to enjoy the advantages in life that most of us take for granted.

Le Loop is no small undertaking. Riding even ONE stage of the Tour de France route is going to hurt! Please reward my pain by giving generously.

Stage 2

Saturday 27th Aug
The 2nd stage of the 2023 Tour de France is played out on a mere 210 kilometres route between Vitoria-Gasteiz and San Sebastián.

The first 40 kilometres lead on the flat along two reservoirs north of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Moments later, after Legutio, the route descends to Mondragón to continue onto more hilly terrain.

In quick succession the riders tackle the Côte d’Udana (4.7 kilometres at 4.7%) and Côte d’Aztiria (2.8 kilometres 5.9%).The rest of the day leads via flat intermezzo’s from one short climb to the next. KOM contenders should be ready at the Côte d’Alkiza (4.1 kilometres at 6.1%) and Côte de Gurutze (2.6 kilometres at 6.1%)

Stage 1

Saturday 27th Aug
While the full Route has not been released yet, the first two stages have and they look quite daunting!
Saturday 1 July - La Grande Boucle sets off with a hilly race in the Basque country. The 185 kilometres takes in five climbs, the last of which goes at almost 10% before dropping down to Bilbao. The last kilometre rises at 5.4% to the line.

Thank you to my Sponsors

From team SQFT hope this helps on those climbs. Enjoy and well done
