Le Loop - supporting the William Wates Memorial Trust
In June 2026, I’ll be riding part of the official Tour de France route as part of Le Loop, one week ahead of the professionals.
I’m 19 and currently at university — so this might be one of the biggest physical challenges I’ve ever taken on (possibly bigger than exam season…).
Le Loop follows the full 21-stage Tour de France route, finishing in Paris. Riders can take on different sections, and I’ll be tackling some of the toughest mountain stages alongside my dad and uncles.
Yes. I agreed to ride the mountains with them. No, I don’t fully know what I’ve signed up for.
Why I’m Doing It
We’re raising money for the William Wates Memorial Trust, a charity that supports disadvantaged young people across the UK.
The Trust funds projects that use sport, arts and education to help young people stay away from crime and violence and build better futures.
As someone lucky enough to be at university, supported by family and given opportunities, I know how much of a difference that kind of support makes.
Not everyone gets that start.
If riding up mountains for a week helps raise money to give someone else a better chance, then it’s worth it.
The Challenge
Le Loop is no small undertaking.
Even one stage of the Tour de France route is tough. We’ll be riding the same roads the pros race on — long climbs, big distances, and very tired legs.
There will definitely be moments when I question my decisions. But that’s kind of the point.
It’s meant to be hard.
Please Support Me
Every rider commits to raising money for the charity. Importantly, donations go directly to the William Wates Memorial Trust — they don’t pay for my participation.
If you’re able to sponsor me, even a small amount makes a real difference.
Your support means a lot — and will definitely help when I’m halfway up a mountain wondering why I thought this was a good idea.
Thank you 🙏
Sam
